Commitment #15: CB Gareon Conley

Can you guys believe our 2013 class now has 15 commits?
4* Gareon Conley, a 6’2” and 170-pound cornerback from Massillon, OH has committed to Michigan.  I believe he fits the frame of the kind of cornerback we were going after: tall. He held offers from Michigan, Northwestern, and Toledo.
Scout just came out with their top-300 players in the nation, and Conley debut with a 4* ranking and was also named 20th at this position. I believe, according to his offer list, that he is vastly underrated. Scout also recently came out with a list of the top 2013 prospects from Ohio and Conley ranks 16th, ahead of Jaron Dukes, Jacob Matuska, Kevin Gladney, Shane Jones, and Taco Charlton...just to name a few names you may be more familiar with. As a junior, Conley had 26 tackles, 4 interceptions, 1 of which was returned for a touchdown, and 1 sack. He also led the team with 9 pass break-ups. His 40-time? 4.38. Incredible. Tom Greene of Scout calls Conley “one of the top sleeper prospects in Ohio for the class of 2013.” Clearly, Hoke knows what he’s doing.
Conley was an interesting prospect because he had Michigan as his #1 before he ever visited campus. Today’s visit was his first time on campus, and clearly he liked what he saw, since he made it official.
Per Conley’s Twitter account (@xx_WellDone_3), last night he said that he was planning on verbally committing today. Being that he was going to be on campus today, it was pretty clear where he was going to commit. I believe Conley is an excellent pickup for this Michigan squad. The coaching staff has been looking for a taller cornerback, which frankly is harder to find, and they found their guy. To put things in perspective, Conley is the tallest cornerback that Michigan has offered in the 2013 class. Like I said, hard to find. Conley received his Michigan offer a while ago, so the coaches knew exactly what they were looking for all along.
Conley’s addition leaves room for possibly one more cornerback in this class. If the coaching staff decides to go after another cornerback, they will probably put all their eggs in 5* Kendall Fuller’s basket. He plans on visiting Michigan next month during the Spring Game.
